"The Levee" featured in article about Katrina

Gene Woods' outreach to the abandoned survivors of Hurricane Katrina and soloist Wayne Lewis are featured in an article on UnderMain, the Lexington cultural affairs magazine.

The City is a Lexington-based soul-funk-vintage rhythm & blues-with-a-touch of reggae band featuring the original music of lead guitarist and vocalist Gene Woods. Now living in Charlotte, Woods has reformed the band for a series of recording sessions at Lexington's Shangri-La Productions under the direction of Duane Lundy.
Woods composed the song The Levee while following the reports of abandonment and desperation experienced by thousands whose homes were lost when hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in August of 2005.
